Apple iPhone 3GS

Pretty much all the rumors regarding the new iPhone turned out true - the iPhone 3GS (S for Speed) has a 3 megapixel camera with video recording and a compass. The unexpected thing however is that 3G S will look exactly as the original iPhone 3G.

Apple iPhone 3GS

Beside the new VGA@30fps video recording, the auto focus camera with touch focus (and everything else automatic) and of course, the built-in compass, there are no other significant changes as compared to iPhone 3G. But there are quite a lot of details that have undergone an update. Check them out right after the official ad video.

The camera should have improved low light sensitivity (whatever that means) and macro mode (10cm). Other than that there still won't be any settings at all to tinker with. A simple video editor will allow to trim your recorded videos.

One other novelty though not as significant is the voice control/dialing. A longer press on the Home button will invoke the voice command interface.

Voice control is among the new features

The compass has its own app but also integrates with Google Maps to allow seamless rotation of the map in thre right direction.

The new Accessibility options allow any text that you point at to be read out loud.

Apple have a long-standing cooperation with Nike and their personal running service called Nike+. You'd probably be glad to learn that thanks to the new accessories support that comes with iPhone OS 3.0, the iPhone 3G S has wirless support for the Nike+ system and its monitors.

Apple iPhone 3GS Apple iPhone 3GS
Nike+ support is also on board

In response to the numerous security concerns with the previous iPhones, the iPhone 3G S now comes with hardware encryption that safeguards the personal data on board. Additionally iTunes backups are also encrypted. The Remote Wipe feature is now available to all users and is instant.

For those of you who always dreaded losing or misplacing their phone, the iPhone 3G S will offer a special Find my iPhone service that should help you get through those tough times. It will allow the user to locate the phone by simply logging in to MobileMe on any browser.

You can then either send a message to the phone which will play a sound even if it's in silent mode. And in the most unpleasant circumstances that your iPhone 3G S gets stolen you can send a remote wipe command which will delete all of your data, avoiding getting it in the wrong hands. Should you find your iPhone later on, you can sync it up with your latest backup on the computer and you should be up and running in no time.

Hardware encryption is also part of the package • The new Find My iPhone service is also available to security concerned Mobile Me users

Even though the new iPhone 3G S has increased functionality and virtually the same dimensions Apple have somehow managed to increase its battery life by about 20 percent. The talk-time in 2G network has been upped to 12 hours (10 on the iPhone 3G) and the audio playback has reached 30 hours (24 on the iPhone 3G). Video playback endurance has been upgraded from 7 to 10 hours, while the stand-by and 3G talk time remain unchanged.

iPhone 3GS availability

The iPhone 3G S will be available as soon as 19 June 2009 in the first wave of countries and it would spread to all the 80 planned countries within a couple of months later.

The first wave will hit USA, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and UK on 19 June, while the rest of the countries will follow suite on 09 July and 09 August.

Available again in white and black, the iPhone 3G S will retail for 199 US dollars and 299 US dollars for the 16GB and 32GB version respectively.

In the same time, the iPhone 3G will continue selling at a reduced price of only 99 US dollars for the 8GB version.

iPhone OS 3.0

The new iPhone 3GS will come with the version 3.0 of the iPhone OS. Representing a significant update over the currently available one it will be officially released on 17th June. The upgrade will be free for iPhone and iPhone 3G users, while iPod Touch adopters will have to part with 9.95 US dollars to get it.

We have already listed most of its new features when Apple announced it officially but here is a quick refresh of the highlights. Background notification service, system-wide cut, copy and paste will be at the users disposal, along with the cool-sounding shake to undo. The long sought after MMS support is also included and will be supported by 29 carriers at launch, while some like AT&T promise to catch up later on.

iPhone 3.0 OS will come with extended language support for over 30 different languages including Hebrew, Arabic, Thai, Greek and Korean. Furthermore the OS will be localized for each supported language.

A hip feature of the new OS is tethering which allows sharing the iPhone internet connection with a desktop computer. It will work with both Macs and PCs, wired over USB, or wireless over Bluetooth, without even needing any additional software to be ran. However, only now Apple revealed that it will require carrier support to work. 22 carriers in 44 countries will support iPhone tethering at launch, but unluckily for our American fellas AT&T is again left out of the list.

A nice surprise is the TomTom GPS navigation application that is already working on the new iPhone OS. Making use of the new APIs in the iPhone OS 3.0 that allow third-party applications to use Maps, GPS navigation is now possible. We really hope there would be some way to pre-download the map data on the phone instead of continuously taking it over-the-air - that can be quite expensive, especially in roaming.

TomTom have also prepared a dedicated windshield mount as an optional accessory, which charges the iPhone beside holding it in place.

Best Hayden Kho news headlines

News is how you say it. Of all news reports coming out regarding the Hayden Kho sex scandal case, the news item with the best headline was Reuters’ Sex, lies, videotape scandal grips Philippines“. The report even starts with an interesting paragraph: “The Philippines is in danger of slipping into recession, it has just recorded its first few cases of the new flu virus, but you wouldn’t know it from reading the Manila newspapers or watching local television…. Newspapers have been giving lurid details of the story on front pages for weeks, complete with bare-chested photographs of Kho.”

The second and third best headlines are:

both by Philippine Daily Inquirer.

More Hayden Kho Scandals to be Released...

How true are the rumors that aside from the Katrina Halili-Hayden Kho Scandal, Maricar Reyes-Hayden Kho Scandal and a Brazilian Hayden Kho Scandal, there are still more Hayden Kho Scandal out there waiting to be released. And guess what? Watching the news on television and coming from some online sources, these will include 1 comedian and the other, a beauty queen.

From the fearless forecast, the said comedian is no other than Rufa Mae Quinto and the beauty queen is Ana Teresa Licaros. Way back when Dra. Vicky Belo and Dr. Hayden Kho broke up, one of the names that surfaced aside from Katrina Halili was Rufa Mae Quinto. But during the time, Rufa Mae Quinto kept on denying it. She even had a misunderstanding with co-host Mo Twister when Mo revealed her name.

With Ana Teresa Licaros, that's a surprise. Same with Maricar Reyes. Oh, and another one. maybe its no surprise if one of the videos will include Dra Vicky Belo herself.

Apple iPhone 2009 comes on 17 July, OLED display on board

We’ve heard lots of stuff about the next-gen Apple iPhone, but here's a rundown of all the latest rumors. The 17 July announcement of the iPhone 2009 is pretty much clear by now but there are some new juicy bits and pieces.

One of the new rumors states that the iPhone 2009 will use an OLED display instead of the current industry leading unit. As of yet, we haven't seen an AMOLED display to match the iPhone display, but who knows we might be surprised. One thing's for sure, AMOLED displays are more energy efficient than standard LCD units, so that seems like a nice move to bump up the appalling battery life of the iPhone 3G.

As rumors have it the Apple logo on the back of the iPhone 2009 will glow much like the ones on Apple laptops. Well if not for anything else, at least it sounds extra cool.

The new iPhone will also probably get rid of the metallic frame around the display and will feature a 3.2 MP AF camera with video recording, will be able to send image/video MMS, and will have double the RAM and increased processing power.

Previous rumors also state that there will be rubber back surface, generally smoother design and nice features as built-in compass.

Finally, the new iPhone will come in at least two versions - 16GB and 32GB ones. All this stuff sounds quite promising, so we are eager to hear more about it from the Cupertino team.

Maricar Reyes Video Scandal

http://www.abs-cbn.com/Portals/0/showbuzz/122808-maricarceleb01.jpg

You would say Maricar Reyes da who?! Maricar Reyes is a successful commercial model and is a Star Magic talent and had her first taste in acting in the just concluded ABS-CBN Primetime series, “I Love Betty La Fea” as John Lloyd Cruz’ first love in the series. Before Maricar Reyes could even make a mark in Philippine Showbiz via good acting or landing a meaty role, she is now making a splash with a video scandal. Maricar Reyes is seen doing the deed with Hayden Kho, apparently just one of a series of videos that Hayden is involved in. Dr. Hayden Kho is indeed the Filipino version of Edison Chen with all these videos he secretly filmed with various personalities. But unlike in the US where a sextape could even boost a career, in the Philippines a video scandal as what it is called out here, could spell doom for a budding showbiz career. So with this, Maricar Reyes could say bye bye to Philippine Showbiz.

American Idol Season 8 - The Final Performance

The Nokia theater is packed! Says Ryan, “The acoustic rocker vs the glam rocker, Conway vs California, The guy next door vs the guy liner…it comes down to Kris and Adam… ”

Peeps. This one is too close to call. Adam and Kris are in a dead heat on Dial Idol right now. Both performed at the top of their games tonight, despite being forced to perform the shiteous dreck that is “No Boundaries” this season’s winner’s song.

The two most original contestants of American Idol season 8 battle it out for the most coveted title in the land.

Well, at least the producers pick didn’t suck as usual. Congrats to Simon Fuller for picking good songs for both the contestants tonight.

Adam Lambert - “Mad World” by Tears for Fears
Randy said: I love that you showed your sensitive side. I give that an A+. Kara said: I am so happy you chose that performance. You are an incredible artist. You rocked it again tonight. Paula said: I am proud you are standing on that stage right now. This is your moment. A great song for you. Still haunting. Way to start the show. Simon said: I always thought this was your best performance but tonight was a little bit theatrical. It reminded me of Phantom of The Opera.

Kris Allen - “Ain’t No Sunshine” by Bill Withers
Randy said: I love that I can tell what kind of artist you are. That was one of your best performances here on this stage. Kara said: I agree with Randy. You have a way with creating an intimate bond with everyone in the audience. Paula said: You awakened the spirit in all of us. Simon: This is a competition. When your name was announced last week, I wasn’t sure America made the right choice but I take it back after that performance.
Adam Lambert - “A Change is Gonna Come” by Sam Cooke
Randy said: What you did was show the real reason you are here. You can sing your face off. Kara said: That may have been your best performance since the start of this competition.Unbelievable. Paula said: That was the best I have ever heard. Unbelievable. You are going to be iconic. Simon said: You are 100% back in the game.
Kris Allen - “What’s Going On” by Marvin Gaye
Randy said: We have a real live duel going on. A great song choice but it was a little bit light for this point in the competition. Kara said: You have been true to yourself since day 1. You can uplift people. Paula said: You tore that song up. Simon said: I love the song but it was like 3 friends in their bedroom strumming along to Marvin Gaye. To laid back for a night like this.
Adam Lambert - “No Boundaries”
Randy said: You can anything. You can sing the phone book. Wasn’t my favorite performance. It was a bit pitchy. Kara said: I am moved and I am proud. Thank you for giving me that moment. Paula said: Adjectives can’t express what you have brought to season 8. I am in awe. You can sing whatever you want to sing and I will be a fan forever. Simon said: I won’t judge the song, I will judge you. You have been one of the best and most original contestants we have ever had. You are a star.
Kris Allen - “No Boundaries”
Randy said: You should be proud of what you have done in this competition. You have done amazing and I think that song fits your voice better than Adam’s. Kara said: I don’t want you to be judged on that song, it was to high. I hope people vote on the season. Paula said: You have done an amazing job to end up where you are. I wish you the best of luck. Simon said: I think your highlight tonight was the first song you did. You deserve to be standing on this stage tonight.

10 Ways to Outwit Your Appetite

Feed it protein for breakfast. You'll be less hungry later on and end up eating 267 fewer calories during the day. At least that's what happened on days when St. Louis University researchers gave overweight women two scrambled eggs and two slices of jelly-topped toast for breakfast rather than about half that protein.

Make it climb a flight of stairs. At home, store the most tempting foods way out of reach. For instance, Cornell University food psychologist Brian Wansink, PhD, keeps his favorite soda in a basement fridge. "Half the time I'm too lazy to run down there to get it, so I drink the water in the kitchen."

Sleep on it. People who don't get their 8 hours of ZZZs experience hormonal fluctuations that increase appetite, report researchers. Sleep deprivation interferes with appetite-suppressing hormones, increases stress hormone levels, and decreases a person's glucose tolerance, all of which may contribute to weight gain. Another way sleep loss may help pile on the pounds: late-night munching. Go to bed and get up at the same time each day to help achieve sounder sleep.

Give it something else to think about. When scientists scanned the brains of people eating different foods, they found that the brain reacts to fat in the mouth in much the same way that it responds to a pleasant aroma. So if you feel a craving coming on, apply your favorite scent.

Never let it see a heaping plate. The more food that's in front of you, the more you'll eat. So at a restaurant, ask your waiter to pack up half of your meal before serving it to you, then eat the extras for lunch the next day.

Put it under the lights. You consume fewer calories at a well-lit restaurant table than you do dining in a dark corner. "In the light, you're more self-conscious and worry that other patrons are watching what you eat," explains Wansink.

Talk it down. Entertaining friends with a great story doesn't give you much time to eat up, so you'll probably still have food on your plate when they're done. Once they're finished, call it quits, too.

Offer it a seat. If you sit down to snack -- and use utensils and a plate -- you'll eat fewer calories at subsequent meals.

Satisfy it with soup. Start lunch with about 130 calories worth of vegetable soup and you'll eat 20% fewer calories overall during lunch, say Penn State experts.

Give it little choice. Packages that contain assorted varieties of cookies, candy, dips, cheese, etc., make you want to try all the flavors. The effect is so powerful, says Wansink, that when people are given 10 colors of M&Ms to munch on, not 7, they eat 30% more!

Chew More, Weigh Less?

Next time you grab a handful of nuts to snack on, count to 40.

A recent study revealed that when people ate a small serving of almonds, 40 chews quelled hunger better than 10 or even 25 crunches of the same amount of nuts.

The Magic Number

Not only did the extra chews help curb hunger best, but also the feelings of fullness lasted longest when people gave the nuts the extra chews. And the practice may work with other foods, too, because researchers suspect it may simply be the mere act of chewing that switches on your brain’s satiety center.

Try These Tummy Tamers, Too

You could crush that 3 p.m. cookie craving just by chewing a little of this: gum.
That's right. A study found that chewing gum can really put the kibosh on your afternoon appetite in a big way.

How does chomping gum suppress hunger? It's simple. When you eat, your taste buds are stimulated by the food. But the cool thing is that exposure to the tastes and smells of food also lessens how good it tastes. That, in turn, is one of the cues that signal your brain that you're full, so cravings go away. Chewing gum may have this same effect -- but without all the calories!

The Katrina Halili - Hayden Kho Video Scandal

The issue may be dying. News about the reconciliation of Dra. Vicky Belo and Hayden Kho (who cares anymore!) is spreading like L.A. wildfire. And Katrina Halili is now romantically linked to JC Tiuseco…but the video that a lot of showbiz watchers are dying to see is still garnering tons of hits on the internet. See one of them below:

LG KM900 Arena: A touch of class

One of the most exciting handsets this season - the LG KM900 Arena - returns and this time it is going to stay a bit longer. In these tough economic times no company can afford of too many blunders so it better live up to those high expectations.
LG KM900 Arena LG KM900 Arena LG KM900 Arena LG KM900 Arena

Key features:
  • 3" 16M-color capacitive TFT touchscreen of WVGA resolution (480 x 800 pixels)
  • S-Class Touch UI
  • Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support
  • 3G with HSDPA (7.2 Mbps)
  • Wi-Fi and GPS receiver with A-GPS
  • 5 megapixel autofocus camera with Schneider-Kreuznach optics, LED flash, geotagging
  • D1 (720x480 pixels)@30fps, VGA@30fps, QVGA fast-motion video and QVGA slo-mo video
  • 8GB built-in storage
  • Hot-swappable microSD card slot
  • Standard 3.5mm audio jack and TV out
  • USB Mass Storage
  • Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP
  • Accelerometer for screen auto rotate
  • Multi-touch input
  • 3D hardware accelerator
  • DivX and XviD support
  • Dolby for Mobile audio enhancement
  • FM radio with FM transmitter
  • Office document viewer
  • Smart dialing

Main disadvantages:

  • Poor sunlight legibility
  • Inadequate flash performance
  • No voice-guided GPS navigation software available
  • No standard USB port
  • Records video in 3GP file format
  • Maximum email attachment size is 1MB only (both ways)
  • Limited DivX/XviD video support
Mainly because the LG KM900 Arena has none of the (absurd) limitations of the original iPhone - no proper Bluetooth functionality, no FM radio, lack of file manager and so on. Instead the Arena comes as a exceptionally well equipped phone with almost every feature in the book included. From 3G with HSDPA, through Wi-Fi and GPS to FM transmitter - the LG KM900 has it all.

The four homescreens - Shortcuts, Widgets, Contacts and Multimedia

No matter which homescreen you choose, the UI never skimps on eye candy - smooth animations, reflections, 3D spatial effects, motion blurring - it's all there for your viewing pleasure. And better still - the 3" WVGA screen ensures that the image quality is exceptional.

It's not every day that we come across a handset which consistently meets our expectations for a high-end phone. The LG Arena is a wonderful multimedia device that has taken great strides in many areas - interface, touch technology, music and entertainment. If you take into account all this great stuff, add the novelty factor, the price tag of 350 euro (around 450 US dollars) seems reasonable.

We're sure the Apple iPhone is lingering in the back of many people's minds. Both sport the full range of connectivity options, huge internal memory and big screens with multi-touch support. The Arena has greater screen resolution, a microSD slot and a far superior camera with excellent video recording options and even a removable battery.

The LG S-class interface is sometimes better than the iPhone Mac OS, sometimes not, sometimes slower, sometimes not. The iPhone advantage is the smartphone capabilities. However, the already available features on the Arena leave little to be desired (even copy/paste functionality). Its competitive price is going to get even sweeter in near future once the dust of the grand market release settles.

To sum it up, we were impressed by almost all aspects of the LG Arena. If you are on the hunt for a touch-based multimedia device at a reasonable price, the Arena is definitely a handset to consider and the S-class UI by LG without a doubt will be a trend setter throughout the year.
